Hapag-Lloyd has enhanced visibility of import demurrage information for customers in the United States, allowing eligible users to view the Demurrage Last Free Day (LFD) directly through its Online Business Suite.
The LFD identifies the final day a container can remain at the port within the applicable free-time period before demurrage charges begin. The displayed date is determined by factors including container availability, movement type, applicable tariff or contract terms and operational status.
The new information is available through Hapag-Lloyd’s Import Overview. Access is provided to the consignee and notify party associated with the relevant shipment, giving them a clearer view of upcoming demurrage deadlines.
For US ports that are live with the PayCargo Container Payment Portal (CPP), customers can also access a link to the CPP watchlist from the Import Overview. This enables users to view the LFD and handle applicable demurrage payments through the portal.
Hapag-Lloyd said the information is intended to improve transparency and help customers plan container collection more effectively. However, the displayed dates depend on the availability and status of underlying shipment and container data and do not change applicable tariff terms or operational conditions.
The carrier has been expanding its digital tools for detention and demurrage management. Its online calculator already enables customers to obtain free-time and demurrage information based on specific bookings and planned container movements.
The enhanced LFD visibility is expected to help US importers better manage pickup schedules and reduce the risk of unexpected port demurrage costs, particularly where terminal operations and cargo availability create tight collection windows.
