    HMM has announced the launch of a new service, the North China-Indonesia Service (NIS), which will connect key ports in North China and Indonesia starting from June.

    The NIS service by HMM will follow a 35-day round voyage, calling at:

    Tianjin – Qingdao – Xiamen – Singapore – Jakarta – Surabaya – Singapore – Tianjin

    The service will be jointly operated with Singapore-based carriers PIL and X-Press Feeders. A total of five vessels, each with a capacity of 4,000 to 5,000 TEU, will be deployed.

    The first voyage is scheduled to depart from Tianjin, China, on 19 June.

    In addition to its existing ICN (Intra-Asia Cross Network) service, the shipping company expects the new service between North China, Singapore, and Indonesia to enhance its competitiveness in the Indonesian market and strengthen feeder connectivity to its long-haul trades.

    Earlier this March, the company added the new 9,000 TEU methanol-powered containership to its fleet. This vessel is the first of nine sister ships purchased in February 2023 from HD Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (seven vessels) and HJ Shipbuilding & Construction (two vessels).

    The same containership later underwent a trial demonstration of an onboard 3D printing system, intending to test the technology’s functionality in real-world sailing circumstances and evaluate its practicality for purchasing vessel repair components.
