Etsy, the global marketplace for unique and creative goods, has released its first-ever report on items purchased globally from Indian sellers this year,  rating India among  the top three fastest growing seller markets. Etsy has tens of thousands of small business owners from every Indian state, who offer one-of-a-kind products. The marketplace connects buyers from around the world with these sellers.

According to the report, Indian sellers have sold over 40 lakh personalised products this year. In September, Indian sellers on Etsy exported products to 168 countries worldwide.

“India is a core market for Etsy due to its rich artisanal and cultural heritage and a strong entrepreneurial spirit. We’ve observed a high demand for India-made products globally. As many as 64% of the sellers on Etsy export their goods outside India, and it is among the top three fastest-growing seller markets for Etsy globally,” said Pankaj Jathar, VP and Country Head India at Etsy.

In September of this year, the furthest distance an order on Etsy from India travelled was from Bagjola village in West Bengal to Tacna in Peru, covering a distance of 17,732 kilometers. Among the personalised products sold this year, wedding jewellery was the most prominent category, with the sale of more than 7.5 lakh pieces, followed by the sale of 4 lakh personalized clothing items, including dresses, tops, tees, pyjamas, and robes. The marketplace also witnessed the sale of more than 1 lakh personalised bridesmaids gifts and over 1 lakh personalized wall decor items.

“At Etsy, we are focused on empowering small businesses with the tools they need to reach our global audience of more than 90 million buyers. This report is testament to the fact that there is global interest in India-made items. Buyers around the world are interested in unique items from India and place great value on the quality work made within the country,” Jathar added.
