India has reaffirmed its commitment to the strategic Chabahar Port project, with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirming that it remains in active discussions with all relevant stakeholders regarding the port’s future operations. The engagement follows the expiry of the US sanctions waiver linked to the project and comes amid evolving geopolitical developments in the region.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that the operational terminal at Chabahar has not suffered any damage despite reports of recent attacks in the surrounding area. He emphasized that India continues to work with stakeholders to determine the way forward for the project while safeguarding its strategic interests.
Chabahar Port remains a key component of India’s regional connectivity strategy, providing access to Afghanistan and Central Asia while bypassing Pakistan. India and Iran are also continuing discussions on the port’s long-term management framework as both sides seek to ensure uninterrupted operations despite sanctions-related challenges.
