In a move to strengthen India’s manufacturing competitiveness, the government has announced a ₹2,000-crore scheme aimed at upgrading technology and infrastructure for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
The initiative, expected to be rolled out in phases over the next three years, will focus on helping MSMEs adopt modern production techniques, digital tools, and automation to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance product quality. Officials say the programme is designed not only to increase domestic productivity but also to make Indian goods more competitive in international markets.
“The MSME sector is the backbone of India’s economy and a key driver of exports. By supporting technology upgrades, we are equipping our small businesses to compete globally,” said a senior commerce ministry official.
The scheme will also provide training and advisory services to MSME owners, helping them implement best practices in production, supply chain management, and quality control. Experts predict that this could significantly increase India’s export volumes and improve the sector’s contribution to GDP.
The move aligns with the government’s broader vision of creating a robust manufacturing ecosystem, fostering innovation, and boosting India’s global trade footprint.
