The Railway Board has introduced a special freight concession for round-trip bookings under the Joint Parcel Product–Rapid Cargo Service (JPP-RCS) trains, aimed at reducing transportation costs for traders, cargo aggregators and logistics service providers.

Under Freight Marketing Circular No. 26/2026, customers booking parcel coaches in advance for both onward and return journeys will be charged 1.5 times the applicable one-way freight. The concession allows the onward journey to be charged at the full rate, while the return journey receives a 50% discount. Booking and payment for both journeys will be completed through a single transaction.

The scheme has been launched as a one-year pilot project to encourage greater use of rail-based parcel transportation and improve the cost-effectiveness of cargo movement.

According to the Ferozepur Railway Division, the concession is expected to benefit the transportation of perishable commodities, particularly potatoes and kinnow, to major markets across the country. The initiative aims to provide farmers and traders with a more economical, fast and secure alternative for moving their produce.

Potato loading is primarily undertaken at Jalandhar City, Kapurthala, Butari, Suranassi, Hoshiarpur, Kartarpur and Malsian Shahkot, while Fazilka is a major loading point for kinnow consignments.

The Railways has urged traders, chambers of commerce and cargo aggregators to take advantage of the concession and make greater use of its cost-effective, safe and time-bound parcel and cargo transportation services.
