India has produced around 26.3 million tonnes of mangoes, maintaining its position as one of the world’s largest mango-producing countries. However, Mexico continues to generate higher export value from mango shipments, highlighting the gap between production scale and international market earnings.

India’s large domestic market absorbs a significant share of its mango production, leaving a comparatively smaller portion available for overseas markets. The country exports several varieties of mangoes to destinations across the Middle East, Europe, North America and other regions.

Mexico, meanwhile, has developed a strong export-oriented mango industry, supported by established international supply chains and access to major consumer markets. Its higher export value reflects the greater share of production directed toward overseas markets.

For India, the figures point to opportunities to increase the value generated from mango exports through improved post-harvest handling, cold-chain infrastructure, packaging and market access. Greater adoption of quality and traceability standards could also help Indian exporters expand their presence in premium international markets.

The government and export agencies have been working to promote Indian mangoes overseas, including through market development initiatives, improved quality standards and measures aimed at reducing logistical and regulatory barriers.

With global demand for fresh mangoes continuing to grow, India’s substantial production base provides scope for expanding exports and increasing the value captured from the fruit in international markets.
