Tensions in the Middle East escalate as Hezbollah threatens Israeli ports amid a series of drone attacks and air strikes.
On Sunday, Israeli forces and Hezbollah, a group supported by Iran, exchanged drone attacks and air strikes. This happened after Hezbollah warned they might attack Israel’s oil facilities.
Hezbollah said they attacked Beit Hillel in northern Israel with a drone. In response, Israel carried out air strikes on two villages in southern Lebanon. Though No casualties were reported by either side.
It’s unclear if these attacks were responses to each other or planned in advance. This violence follows earlier Israeli strikes deep into Lebanon and warnings from Israel about the possibility of a larger war starting soon.
On Saturday, there was an air strike on a vehicle in the Beqaa Valley in northern Lebanon. The Israelis claimed they killed a Hamas commander in this attack.
Infact,Last week, Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz said that his country was very close to deciding to change their approach against Hezbollah and Lebanon. He warned that in an all-out war, Hezbollah would be destroyed, and Lebanon would suffer severe damage.
Now, Katz was repeating a long-standing Israeli policy, which threatens that civilian infrastructure across Lebanon will be hit in the event of war.
Israel and Hezbollah have been exchanging fire since October 8. This started when Hezbollah, a Lebanese armed group, began attacking Israel to support Hamas after the Gaza war began the day before.
However, analysts say that the daily air strikes in Lebanon and the rocket and drone attacks by Hezbollah are much smaller compared to what a full-scale conflict would look like.
