Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) has awarded a ₹92.95 crore work contract to Softtech Engineers Limited for implementing a Digital Twin platform at the container port, marking a major step towards building a smarter, more efficient and future-ready port ecosystem.
The Digital Twin project will create a real-time digital replica of JNPA’s port assets, infrastructure and operational activities, enabling data-driven monitoring, predictive intelligence and proactive decision-making.
According to JNPA, the core functionalities of the Digital Twin are targeted for implementation by February 2027, with the platform expected to become fully operational by February 2028.
The initiative is expected to enhance operational efficiency, asset utilisation, safety, environmental sustainability and overall service delivery, while supporting seamless trade and logistics operations.
“The core functionalities of the Digital Twin platform are targeted to be implemented by February 2027 and will be fully operational by February 2028. The initiative is expected to revolutionise port operations by creating a real-time digital replica of port assets, infrastructure, and operational activities, enabling proactive decision-making and enhanced operational efficiency,” said Gaurav Dayal, IAS, Chairperson, JNPA.
The platform will support predictive maintenance of critical infrastructure, helping minimise downtime, optimise asset performance and extend infrastructure life. It will also strengthen safety and security through advanced surveillance, monitoring and incident-management capabilities.
In addition, the Digital Twin will enable monitoring of green cover, air quality and water quality, supporting JNPA’s sustainability and environmental objectives.
“The Digital Twin will transform the way port operations are monitored, planned and optimised by bringing real-time data and predictive intelligence into a single operational environment. It will enhance vessel traffic management, improve cargo and logistics flows, support vehicular decongestion and enable predictive maintenance of critical infrastructure,” said Ravish Kumar Singh, Deputy Chairperson, JNPA.
The project is expected to strengthen JNPA’s position as a smart and technology-driven port, while improving the efficiency, resilience and sustainability of cargo and logistics operations.
