Kannur International Airport is set to undergo a major transformation within the next year, according to Kerala Assembly Opposition Leader V. D. Satheesan, who highlighted the need to strengthen the airport’s infrastructure and connectivity.
The proposed changes are expected to focus on improving the airport’s facilities and strengthening its role as an important aviation gateway for northern Kerala.
Kannur International Airport serves passengers from Kannur, Kasaragod, Wayanad, and neighbouring regions, as well as travellers from the Malabar area. Enhancing its infrastructure could improve passenger experience and support the airport’s ability to handle increased traffic.
Improved connectivity and airport facilities could also benefit the region’s tourism, business and trade sectors. A stronger international air network would provide better access to overseas markets and destinations, particularly for the large expatriate community in the region.
The airport has also been seeking greater connectivity to domestic and international destinations. Additional services and improved infrastructure could help increase passenger and cargo activity while strengthening Kannur’s position within Kerala’s aviation network.
Satheesan’s remarks come amid continuing discussions over the development of Kannur airport and measures required to improve its operational and commercial potential.
