The Chief Minister’s Office has confirmed that the government is in the final stages of setting up passenger ship services in the Beypore-KochiUAE sector, announced the Malabar Development Council (MDC) chairman CE Chakunni.
Complaints have been growing about airlines failing to provide basic necessities like drinking water to passengers stranded at airports for extended periods. In response to these issues, Chakunni and MDC patron A Sivasankaran called on the Chief Minister to intervene immediately.
The MDC has expressed its willingness to return to Dubai to discuss the details of the proposed ship service with relevant companies if the government requests it.
Previously, an MDC team travelled to Dubai to discuss launching a cruise service for the Beypore-Kochi-Dubai route. They met with shipping companies and expatriates to explore the feasibility of the service. As a result, the Kerala Maritime Board requested expressions of interest from shipping companies.
The Kerala Maritime Board was also informed that shipping companies from Kerala are ready to participate in the service.
