LATAM Cargo has added more Boeing 767 freighter flights between South America and Los Angeles as it looks to cater for blooming flower demand on the US west coast.

The cargo division on 1 July increased the number of weekly flights between Quito and Los Angeles from three to four, while from 13 July it will launch a new weekly service between Bogota and the US city.

The addition of two extra flights to Los Angeles will boost the airline group’s freighter capacity to the city by 66%.

“With this expansion, flower growers in Colombia and Ecuador will have more options to connect their products with the US west coast market, one of the top destinations for South American flowers,” LATAM said in a press release.

“Strengthening this key route adds over 100 tons of additional cargo capacity to the US west coast and reaffirms LATAM’s commitment to the region,” said Santiago Alvarez, chief commercial officer of LATAM Cargo.

LATAM Cargo currently operates a fleet of 20 Boeing 767 freighter aircraft. It took delivery of its latest freighter in August last year.

The cargo business has also been adjusting its network between South America and Europe this year.

From October, it will increase its freighter operations between Europe and South America to 15 weekly frequencies.
