Lufthansa Cargo has signed an agreement to acquire 100% of German air cargo handler LUG aircargo handling GmbH, strengthening its ground-handling infrastructure and adding immediately available capacity in Germany. The agreement was signed on September 7, 2026.

The acquisition is part of Lufthansa Cargo’s strategy to build additional infrastructure to support long-term and profitable growth. LUG will complement Lufthansa Cargo’s existing ground-handling network, which is undergoing a major modernisation programme under its LCCevo initiative, backed by an investment of around €600 million.

The transaction will provide Lufthansa Cargo with approximately 50,000 square metres of covered warehouse space in Germany, giving the carrier additional handling capacity as cargo volumes and infrastructure requirements grow.

LUG will continue to operate independently in the market following the acquisition. Its existing organisational structures and customer relationships will remain in place, meaning the transaction is not expected to result in immediate changes for customers of either company.

Lufthansa Cargo Chief Operating Officer Frank Bauer said the company is making targeted infrastructure investments in its home market to become more flexible, efficient and resilient for customers. The carrier sees the acquisition as supporting its ambition to strengthen its offering from Germany and across its global network.

Completion of the deal remains subject to the necessary antitrust and regulatory approvals. Once completed, the acquisition will further expand Lufthansa Cargo’s infrastructure base in Germany and provide additional capacity to support future air freight growth.
