Under the expanded network, shuttle services will connect key ports along the Pacific coast of Latin America with Maersk’s primary hub ports, enabling faster cargo transfers and more reliable onward connections. The hub-and-spoke model is intended to improve schedule integrity, reduce transit disruptions, and provide greater flexibility in responding to changing market demand.
The move forms part of the broader Gemini Cooperation, through which Maersk is reshaping its global liner network with an emphasis on fewer direct port calls, increased use of regional feeder and shuttle services, and higher on-time performance. By consolidating cargo through strategically located hubs, the carrier aims to optimize vessel utilization while maintaining consistent service levels across its network.
The expanded shuttle coverage is expected to benefit exporters and importers moving commodities such as fresh produce, seafood, agricultural products, manufactured goods, and consumer products between Latin America, North America, Europe, and Asia.
