A.P. Moller – Maersk (Maersk) has opened its largest contract logistics facility in Asia Pacific , the Maersk Mega Distribution Centre (DC) in Malaysia, expanding its warehouse footprint by over 30 per cent.
The Mega DC spans nearly 180,000 square metres with 100,000 pallet positions. It is a multi-client facility handling fast-moving consumer goods, food and beverages, footwear, and apparel.
Elaine Low, Area Managing Director, Southeast Asia, Maersk, said: “Domestic consumption is strong, and we see growing opportunities to support businesses across sectors in Malaysia.
“Shared resources in this facility deliver cost-efficiency and operational agility, helping customers scale seamlessly during peak periods.”
KS Chang, Head of Maersk Contract Logistics Asia Pacific, said: “This facility is among our largest contract logistics sites globally. It strengthens our ability to provide reliable, flexible supply chains and modern automated solutions.”
Strategically located in Shah Alam, the Mega DC connects to major highways and provides direct access to Port Klang, and is around 340 kilometres from the Port of Tanjung Pelepas, a key transhipment hub.
Daily trucking links cities including Ipoh, Penang, Johor, Malacca, and Kota Bharu, with sea, air, and land options reaching East Malaysia and broader Asia.
YB Anthony Loke, Minister of Transport Malaysia, said the facility enhances Malaysia’s logistics network and supports its goal to become the ‘Logistics Gateway to Asia’.
The Mega DC features Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs), Put-to-Light (PTL) systems, and an Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS), enabling faster, more accurate order fulfilment.
End-to-end transport management, bonded and non-bonded storage, and value-added services like tagging, repacking, returns management, and quality control further support operational efficiency.
Equipped with Maersk’s Warehouse Management System (WMS) and EDI, the facility offers real-time inventory and shipment visibility.
It is GBI Gold and LEED Gold certified, with solar panels, smart LED lighting, rainwater harvesting, and comprehensive safety systems.
Maersk’s Mega Distribution Centre highlights the growing role of automation and strategic logistics hubs in regional supply chains.
