Maersk will suspend its Seasonal Transpacific Loader Service (TPX) between Asia and the US West Coast following its final sailing in September, with the service remaining suspended for the rest of the fourth quarter of 2026.
The final eastbound sailing will be Maersk Boston, voyage 640E, departing Vung Tau, Vietnam, on September 29. The service connects Asian origins with the US West Coast and was introduced earlier this year to provide additional capacity during the peak season.
Maersk said the TPX service will remain suspended until further notice after the final voyage. The carrier added that it will communicate separately if the seasonal service is reinstated in 2027.
The TPX service was launched in June 2026, connecting key origins in Vietnam and South Korea with the US West Coast. Maersk initially indicated that the seasonal operation was expected to run through the end of the third quarter, with the service designed to provide additional flexibility during periods of elevated demand.
The suspension comes as transpacific shipping continues to experience strong import demand and operational pressures. Maersk’s September market update said transpacific imports remained strong, while typhoon-related disruptions in Asia had created shipment backlogs. Capacity into the US West Coast also remained tight.
Industry data indicates the TPX service has been operating with several vessels averaging around 4,400 TEUs of capacity. Its suspension will remove the additional seasonal capacity from the Asia-US West Coast trade during the final months of the year.
Maersk said it will provide alternative solutions through its existing network to maintain coverage and minimise disruption for customers. Shippers using the TPX service will therefore need to review alternative sailings and available capacity for cargo moving between Asia and the US West Coast.
The decision also comes ahead of China’s Golden Week holiday in early October, a period that can affect manufacturing activity and vessel schedules across the transpacific trade.
