The MV Maersk Edmonton, part of A.P. Moller – Maersk (Maersk) Line’s West Africa Xpress Service (WAX Service), has made its debut visit at the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA)’s East Container Terminal (ECT).
CMA CGM Sri Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. started this new service after top SLPA management, led by Chairman Keith D. Bernard, visited Maersk Lines and CMA CGM in Dubai. They discussed bringing more ships to the Port of Colombo (POC).
According to SLPA, this joint effort between the shipping line and its local agents, CMA CGM Sri Lanka (Pvt) Ltd., has greatly contributed to Maersk’s projected success in deploying the WAX Service to Colombo.
The MV Maersk Edmonton, constructed in 2011 by Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. of South Korea, is now sailing under the Danish flag. It has an overall length (LOA) of 366 metres and can transport 13,100 TEU with a gross weight of 141,716 tonnes.
CMA CGM currently has 13 vessels deployed for the WAX Service, with Maersk Line contributing eight vessels.
In April, Maersk announced substantial enhancements to its ME2 ocean service.
