Metrans, a subsidiary of Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA), has collaborated with the technology company Mobility & Innovation Production s.r.o. (MIP) to test the first hydrogen-powered truck in Slovakia.
A letter of intent to this effect was signed during the official product launch in Slovakia. Metrans plans to expand its zero-emission vehicle fleet to provide clients with climate-neutral container transportation.
On 14 November 2024, MIP and Metrans, together with other partner firms, displayed the truck at the Slovakia Ring in Orechová Potôň. Metrans and MIP signed a statement of intent during the occasion to put the truck into action for container transport.
Metrans will initially deploy the hydrogen-powered vehicle for Slovak transit around its European network and perform extensive testing.
The MIP truck reportedly has a longer range than other electric trucks, making it suitable for long-distance travel.
The 48-kilogramme hydrogen tank allows for a range of at least 600 kilometres without requiring any changes to usage patterns, such as the refuelling method.
During the test runs, the vehicle will only be powered by hydrogen derived from renewable energy sources.

In June, Metrans integrated a photovoltaic system to power its rail links in Germany with renewable electricity.
