Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has taken a strategic step into cold chain logistics by acquiring a stake in CKL, signalling its intent to expand beyond traditional shipping into temperature-controlled supply chains.

The investment will allow MOL to leverage CKL’s expertise in cold storage and refrigerated transport, catering to growing demand from food, pharmaceutical and life sciences sectors. Cold chain logistics has emerged as a high-growth segment as global trade in perishables and sensitive cargo expands.

MOL said the move aligns with its medium- to long-term strategy to diversify its logistics portfolio and strengthen value-added services. By integrating cold chain capabilities, the company aims to offer end-to-end solutions across sea, land and storage operations.

CKL is expected to benefit from MOL’s global network, operational know-how and customer base, supporting its expansion in international markets. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
