Mumbai, July 4: The Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways (MoPSW), in collaboration with Sagarmala Finance Corporation Limited and SBI Ventures Limited, held a high-level industry consultation in Mumbai to discuss the proposed Maritime Investment Fund (MIF), a strategic initiative aimed at accelerating investment across India’s maritime sector.

The consultation was chaired by Shri Vijay Kumar, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, and brought together leading stakeholders from the maritime and financial sectors to deliberate on the fund’s structure, investment strategy, governance framework and implementation roadmap.

The proposed Maritime Investment Fund is envisioned as a catalytic financing platform designed to mobilise long-term institutional capital, address equity financing gaps, and unlock investments in critical maritime infrastructure and services. The fund is expected to support projects across ports, shipping, shipbuilding, inland waterways, coastal shipping and maritime logistics.

During the discussions, participants shared industry perspectives on developing a robust investment framework that can attract both domestic and international investors while supporting India’s long-term maritime growth ambitions.

The consultation underscored the government’s commitment to strengthening the country’s maritime ecosystem through innovative financing mechanisms. Stakeholders expressed broad support for the initiative, recognising the Maritime Investment Fund as a key enabler of infrastructure development, improving sector competitiveness, and driving sustainable growth.

The proposed fund aligns with the Government of India’s broader vision of transforming the country into a globally competitive maritime nation by fostering private sector participation and ensuring greater availability of long-term capital for strategic maritime projects.
