V.O. Chidambaranar (VOC) Port Authority is stepping up efforts to modernise port infrastructure, promote green marine fuels and strengthen environmental sustainability, following a visit by Vijay Kumar, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW).

During the visit, Vijay Kumar inspected key operational facilities and ongoing development projects at the port, accompanied by Susanta Kumar Purohit, IRSEE, Chairperson, VOC Port Authority; Rajesh Soundararajan, IAS, Deputy Chairperson; and senior port officials.

The Secretary inspected the DPE facility and the additional Customs-bonded area. He was also briefed on the proposed pilot methanol bunkering and refuelling facility and the port-led industrialisation site. These initiatives reflect the port’s focus on diversifying marine fuel options, supporting industrial growth and strengthening its role as a major maritime gateway.

As part of the visit, Vijay Kumar undertook a tug ride to inspect the port’s berths and jetties, gaining an overview of its operational infrastructure and maritime facilities.

Reinforcing the port’s commitment to environmental conservation, a mass tree plantation drive was also conducted under the leadership of the MoPSW Secretary. Susanta Kumar Purohit, Rajesh Soundararajan, port officials and employees actively participated in the initiative, reaffirming the port’s focus on green initiatives and sustainable development.

The visit highlighted VOC Port Authority’s ongoing efforts to improve operational efficiency, develop modern maritime infrastructure, explore alternative marine fuels and promote port-led industrialisation, in line with India’s broader maritime growth and sustainability objectives.
