    MPEDA hosts inter-state Skill Olympiad on seafood value addition, preliminary round (Zone I – West Coast)

    MPEDA has organized the first Inter-State Skill Olympiad on Seafood Value Addition, Preliminary Round (Zone I – West Coast), for seafood processing professionals, on 29th May 2025, at NIFPHATT, Kochi. The programme was inaugurated by Shri D V Swamy, IAS, Chairman, MPEDA, by lighting the lamp. During the inaugural function Chairman, MPEDA emphasized the need to develop skill in seafood sector to make India become a Global leader in seafood value addition. This is in line with the Government of India’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

    The objective of the programme is to enhance skills in seafood processing, build a pool of trained professionals and create the awareness about quality and value addition in seafood products

    Shri.Mr.Anil Kumar P, Secretary, MPEDA welcomed the dignitaries and participants for the programme. Dr.Ram Mohan M.K, Director, MPEDA, Dr.Shine Kumar C.S.,Director, NIFPHATT, Dr.DineshBabu, Principal Scientist, CMFRI, Dr.Mini Sekharan, Director, School of Industrial Fisheries and Mrs.Maya Devi,Technical Officer, EIA, Kochi offered felicitations during the programme.

    Twenty skilled seafood professionals from the West Coast participated in the Inter-State Skill Olympiad in Kochi and prepared 10 value added seafoodproducts from Shrimps, Cuttlefish, Squid, Tuna& Tilapia.The skill Olympiad was evaluated by a five member panel comprising of experts from seafood industry and fisheries institutes.

    The Olympiad was witnessed by officials from Central and State organizations including fisheries department, researchers, exporters, processing workers, and students.

    The winners of the first Inter-State Skill Olympiad on Seafood Value Addition, Preliminary Round (Zone I – West Coast) was announced by the Chairman, MPEDA and the winners were awarded during the valedictory function. The event ended with a tasting session of value added marine products.
