Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has announced an increase in the Emergency Operation Surcharge (EOS).

The company noted that the EOS will be in effect from 18 January 2025 until further notice.

MSC has announced that the introduction of new Transatlantic networks is expected to cause operational disruptions in the initial months of next year.

EOS will be charged as follows:

    New Amount Former Amount
    20 DV 40 DV-HC 40 HR/SEQ 20 DV 40 DV-HC 40 HR/SEQ
    Emergency Operation Surcharge (EOS) 1300 2000 2500 500 1000 1000

Lars Jensen, CEO of Vespucci Maritime, remarked: “This is not a surprise, as such a network change is not an easy thing to plan – the same should be expected for network changes in Gemini and Premier Alliance.

“In this case, the operational disruption is specifically due to MSC’s own actions in creating a new product portfolio.”

On 1 December, MSC announced it would implement a congestion surcharge at the Port of Beira in Mozambique.

One day later, the shipping giant’s subsidiary, Port of Hamburg Beteiligungsgesellschaft SE, announced the successful completion of its voluntary public tender offer for the shares of Hamburger Hafen und Logistik Aktiengesellschaft (HHLA).
