Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has expanded its Southeast Asian network by introducing the Port of Kuala Tanjung in Indonesia to its Singapore–Indonesia Malacca Feeder service — a move that brings international container connectivity to the port for the first time.
Under the updated feeder rotation, MSC will deploy a single vessel with a capacity of around 2,600 TEU operating on the loop Singapore – Belawan – Kuala Tanjung – Singapore. This enhancement aligns Kuala Tanjung with Singapore’s status as one of the world’s busiest transshipment hubs, improving cargo flow and regional linkage opportunities for shippers and exporters in Indonesia’s northern Sumatra region.
Traditionally served only by domestic shipping operators, Kuala Tanjung’s inclusion in an international service signals growing demand for integrated logistics solutions in Indonesia and strengthens MSC’s feeder network across the Malacca Strait — one of the most important maritime trade corridors globally.
The new service not only offers direct connectivity to Singapore’s extensive global service network but also supports Indonesia’s broader port development strategy, as the government continues to promote Kuala Tanjung as a key gateway for international trade.
Industry analysts view this development as part of MSC’s ongoing intra‑Asia strategy to deepen regional linkages and provide more direct routes for cargo movement between Southeast Asian markets and major transshipment hubs.
