The share of export of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) specified products in all India exports was 45.56% in April-September 2023, Parliament was informed Monday.
The share was 43.59% in FY23 and 45.03% in FY22. It was 49.35% in 2020-21 and 49.77% in 2019-20. Bhanu Pratap Singh Verma, minister of state for MSME also told the Rajya Sabha that the share of MSME manufacturing gross value added (GVA) in all India manufacturing GVA was 40.83% in FY22 from 40.3% in FY21.
The MSME GVA in all India Gross Domestic Product was 29.15% in 2021-22 and 27.24% in FY21.
Udyam registration
As on December 4, 2023, the total number of MSMEs registered since July 1, 2020 are 3.16 crore, as per Udyam Registration Portal. As on December 6, 2023, the total employment recorded on the Udyam Registration Portal since inception on July 1, 2020 is 15.5 crore.
Margin money subsidy
About 9.16 lakh micro enterprises have been assisted across the country with a Margin Money (MM) subsidy of Rs 23,770.28 crore providing employment to an estimated 74.87 lakh persons, till November 30, 2023 since 2008-09.
Under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) for assisting entrepreneurs across the country in setting up of new units in the non-farm sector, General Category beneficiaries can avail of MM subsidy of 25% of the project cost in rural areas and 15% in urban areas.
It aims to provide employment opportunities to traditional artisans/ rural and urban unemployed youth at their doorstep.

For beneficiaries belonging to special categories such as Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, OBCs, minorities, women, ex-servicemen, physically handicapped, transgenders, beneficiaries belonging to Northeastern region, hill and border areas, and aspirational Districts, the Margin Money subsidy is 35% in rural areas and 25% in urban areas.
