Navi Mumbai International Airport has marked a major milestone by handling its first international freighter cargo, strengthening its position as a new gateway for India’s air freight sector.
The arrival of the first foreign freighter cargo marks an important step in the airport’s development as an international logistics hub. The facility is expected to provide additional cargo-handling capacity for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and surrounding industrial and commercial centres.
The new airport’s location is expected to improve access to major manufacturing, trading and consumption markets across Maharashtra. Its cargo operations could support the movement of time-sensitive and high-value shipments, including electronics, pharmaceuticals, engineering products, perishables and e-commerce cargo.
The commencement of international freighter operations is also expected to create new opportunities for freight forwarders, logistics companies, exporters and importers by providing an additional air cargo gateway alongside Mumbai’s existing airport infrastructure.
As cargo volumes continue to grow, Navi Mumbai International Airport is expected to play an increasingly important role in supporting India’s international trade and strengthening the country’s air logistics network.
