Nexon Geochem plans to invest ₹1,250 crore in a rare-earth magnet manufacturing plant in Andhra Pradesh, in a move aimed at strengthening domestic production and reducing India’s dependence on imported magnets.

Rare-earth magnets, particularly neodymium-based permanent magnets, are essential components in electric vehicles, wind turbines, electronics, industrial motors and several advanced manufacturing applications. India’s efforts to expand domestic production are gaining importance as industries seek more resilient supply chains for critical materials.

The proposed investment could support the development of local manufacturing capacity and create opportunities across the wider supply chain, including component production, processing and industrial services.

India’s reliance on imported rare-earth magnets has emerged as a strategic concern because these materials are important to clean energy, automotive manufacturing, electronics and other technology-driven sectors. Expanding domestic capacity could help reduce exposure to overseas supply disruptions and improve long-term availability for Indian manufacturers.

Andhra Pradesh could also benefit from fresh industrial investment through employment generation, infrastructure development and opportunities for ancillary industries.

The project’s contribution will depend on its implementation timeline, production capacity, sourcing of rare-earth materials and access to the technology required for large-scale magnet manufacturing.
