The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has introduced the Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling system at Shahjahanpur Toll Plaza on the Delhi–Jaipur stretch of NH-48, enabling completely barrier-free travel from Manesar to Jaipur.
With the implementation at Shahjahanpur, it becomes the third toll plaza on the corridor to adopt the advanced tolling technology, following Daulatpura and Manoharpura.
The MLFF system combines Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology with FASTag-based Electronic Toll Collection (ETC), allowing vehicles to pass through toll plazas without stopping. The barrier-less system is designed to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow while eliminating delays caused by conventional toll booths.
According to the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, the new system is expected to significantly reduce travel time, improve fuel efficiency, lower vehicle emissions, and enhance the overall driving experience on one of India’s busiest national highway corridors.
NHAI has advised highway users to maintain sufficient balance in their FASTag accounts to ensure seamless toll transactions. In cases where a vehicle has an insufficient FASTag balance or an invalid FASTag, the registered user will receive an electronic notice (E-Notice) and must pay the applicable toll within 72 hours. Failure to make the payment within the stipulated period will attract double the normal user fee.
The authority said the rollout of MLFF represents a major step towards modernising India’s highway tolling infrastructure by enhancing transparency, reducing operational costs associated with physical toll plazas, and improving the overall efficiency of toll collection across the national highway network.
