Peel Ports has launched a £4 million digitisation programme across its dry bulk business, aimed at modernising operations, improving efficiency, and enhancing customer visibility across its UK port network. The investment will focus on deploying advanced digital systems to streamline cargo handling, planning, and data management for commodities such as aggregates, cement, biomass, and agricultural bulks.

The programme includes the introduction of real-time cargo tracking, automated reporting, and enhanced terminal operating systems designed to improve accuracy and reduce turnaround times for vessels, trucks, and rail movements. Peel Ports said the digital upgrades will also strengthen coordination between terminals, customers, and logistics partners, enabling better forecasting and operational decision-making.

Company officials noted that digitisation is expected to deliver productivity gains, reduce manual processes, and improve safety by minimising paperwork and human error. The initiative also supports Peel Ports’ wider sustainability objectives by cutting congestion, optimising asset use, and lowering emissions through more efficient cargo flows.

Industry observers say the £4 million investment reflects growing pressure on bulk port operators to adopt digital tools as supply chains become more data-driven and customers demand greater transparency. By upgrading its dry bulk operations, Peel Ports aims to reinforce its competitiveness and support long-term growth across its bulk handling business.
