A four-lane carriageway from Jamujhari on NH-16 to Dhamra port will be constructed soon for smooth transportation in the important industrial cluster, Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari informed the Rajya Sabha on Friday.
Responding to a question by Bhadrak MP, Avimanyu Sethi, the minister, in a written reply, said that Dhamra Port Company Limited (DPCL) is developing a two-lane road along the economic corridor for the security and maintenance of the railway line, water and other electrical infrastructure.
Sethi had asked about the current status of the proposed highway, which was announced by the minister during his visit to Puri and various election meetings. Sethi also asked whether the detailed project report is in the completion stage but it is being delayed due to non-approval from the ministry and, if so, the reasons for the persistent delay.
Admitting the delay and inefficiency of the existing two-lane road for heavy commercial vehicle movement to Dhamra port, Gadkari said the ministry, without further delay, will construct a four-lane divided carriageway in the economic corridor.
Gadkari said that it will efficiently manage transportation of port cargo and facilitate the transport of agricultural and pisciculture products to Dhamra, improving industrialisation and economy of the area.
He further said the four-lane carriageway will also help in the movement of supplies during natural disasters, for which the state govt also consented to a greenfield alignment.
