India’s PM GatiShakti National Master Plan has recommended more than 400 infrastructure projects, with a combined estimated value of ₹20.23 lakh crore, for approval. The initiative aims to strengthen integrated infrastructure planning, improve multimodal connectivity and enhance coordination among ministries and government departments.

PM GatiShakti provides a common digital platform for planning infrastructure projects across sectors, including roads, railways, ports, airports, waterways and logistics facilities. By integrating geospatial data and project information, the platform helps authorities assess connectivity requirements and identify potential gaps before projects move forward.

The recommendations reflect India’s continued focus on developing an interconnected transport and logistics network to support economic growth and trade. Better coordination between different transport modes is expected to improve freight movement, reduce transit delays and strengthen connections between industrial centres, ports and markets.

For the logistics sector, improved multimodal infrastructure can support more efficient cargo movement by enabling smoother transfers between road, rail, waterways and port facilities. This is particularly important for exporters and importers seeking to reduce transportation costs and improve supply-chain reliability.

The Network Planning Group (NPG) evaluates projects involving investments exceeding ₹500 crore to assess multimodal connectivity, last-mile access and coordination between infrastructure networks. The platform now integrates more than 1,800 data layers covering 58 central ministries and departments, as well as all 36 states and Union Territories.

Of the projects evaluated under the initiative, the latest reported figures indicate that 256 projects have been sanctioned, with 198 under implementation. The remaining projects are at different stages of the approval process.

For India’s logistics and trade sectors, coordinated development of roads, railways, ports and other infrastructure could improve freight connectivity, strengthen last-mile access and help reduce logistics costs. The initiative’s impact will depend on timely project approvals, effective coordination and completion of the infrastructure.
