Prime Minister Narendra Modi, currently on a two-day visit to Sweden, met Robert Maersk Uggla, Chairman of Maersk, in Gothenburg on Sunday to discuss expanding investment opportunities in India’s maritime and logistics sectors.
The discussions centred on strengthening collaboration in port infrastructure, logistics, maritime connectivity, and broader trade opportunities, reflecting India’s continued push to position itself as a global logistics and manufacturing hub.
Sharing details of the meeting on social media, PM Modi stated that India offers significant growth potential for global investors and highlighted the scope for deeper engagement with Maersk across strategic infrastructure sectors.
The Prime Minister was received at Gothenburg Airport by Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, with his aircraft escorted by Swedish Air Force jets upon arrival. During the visit, PM Modi is expected to hold high-level discussions aimed at strengthening India-Sweden cooperation in trade, investments, innovation, defence, and sustainable development.
PM Modi also announced that he would participate in the European Business Round Table for Industry alongside Kristersson and Ursula von der Leyen, engaging with leading European business leaders to further deepen investment linkages between India and Europe.
India and Sweden have witnessed growing economic engagement in recent years, with bilateral trade reaching USD 7.75 billion in 2025. The visit is expected to open new avenues for cooperation across shipping, green technology, logistics, and industrial partnerships.
Adding significance to the visit, PM Modi was conferred with Sweden’s prestigious Royal Order of Polar Star Commander Grand Cross — the highest honour awarded to a Head of Government by Sweden. The recognition marks the 31st international honour received by the Indian Prime Minister and underscores the strengthening strategic partnership between the two nations.
