GAZ-SYSTEM has partnered with the Port of Gdańsk and the Maritime Office in Gdynia to build a floating LNG terminal of the Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) type.
The investment aims to diversify Poland’s natural gas supply sources, with the terminal meeting more than 30 per cent of the country’s demand.
The FSRU terminal and transmission infrastructure will be placed inside the Port of Gdańsk administrative borders.
The floating FSRU is a storage vessel for liquefied natural gas (LNG), or liquid gas, and includes a system that converts the raw material from liquefied to gaseous form. Fuel from the FSRU will be pumped into the gearbox network.
Łukasz Malinowski, President of the Port of Gdańsk, said: “The terminal will be an important element of the gas import infrastructure for Poland and the CEE region. The role of the Port of Gdańsk as a place of strategic importance will increase even further.”
Marcin Chludziński, President of GAZ-SYSTEM, stated: “Poland needs an FSRU Terminal because it enables the import of LNG from any place in the world. The terminal’s capacity will secure more than 30 per cent of the country’s demand.”
In March, the President of the Port of Gdańsk, Krzysztof Kaczmarek, signed two agreements with Polish construction company, PORR S.A., to renovate Rudowe and Bytomskie Quays.
