Susanta Kumar Purohit, Chairperson of Paradip Port Authority (PPA), on Sunday reviewed operational readiness, infrastructure development and commissioning progress at the Jindal Paradip Port Limited (JPPL) berth at the Western Dock.
During the visit, Purohit inspected berth operations and interacted with senior PPA officials and JPPL representatives, including Sandeep Jaiswal, Deputy CEO of JPPL. Discussions focused on improving cargo handling efficiency, achieving 100% berth mechanisation and strengthening rail and road connectivity for seamless cargo evacuation.
The successful berthing of deep-draft Capesize vessels was a key highlight, marking a significant milestone in enhancing Paradip Port’s capacity to accommodate large vessels and handle bulk cargo efficiently.
The review also emphasised sustainable port operations, strict adherence to safety standards, technology-driven logistics solutions and efficient multimodal connectivity to improve terminal productivity and reduce logistics bottlenecks.
Purohit appreciated the collaborative efforts of PPA and JPPL in advancing the Western Dock project. The development is expected to strengthen Paradip Port’s infrastructure, enhance its role as a major maritime gateway on India’s eastern coast and support the country’s vision of Viksit Bharat through modern, efficient and sustainable port-led development.
