Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, while addressing the Maritime Leaders Conclave during India Maritime Week 2025 in Mumbai, lauded the remarkable achievements of Gujarat’s Kandla Port, describing it as a symbol of national pride and innovation.

In his address, the Prime Minister highlighted that, for the first time in India, a port has established a megawatt-scale, fully indigenous green hydrogen facility — a landmark accomplishment by Kandla Port. He emphasized that this achievement reflects India’s growing capability in developing sustainable, homegrown clean energy solutions.

During his visit to Kutch earlier, the Prime Minister had laid the foundation stone for a 10 MW green hydrogen plant, of which a 1 MW unit has already been successfully commissioned. With this, Kandla Port has become the first Indian port to operationalize a Make-in-India-based 1 MW green hydrogen plant, marking a new era in the country’s maritime and clean energy transition journey.

Prime Minister Modi had earlier praised this initiative of the Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) in a social media post, describing it as “a commendable effort that strengthens sustainable development and advances India’s Net Zero vision.” The facility is expected to play a pivotal role in reducing carbon emissions and supporting India’s green growth mission.

This groundbreaking project — the first of its kind by a government-owned port — represents a major step forward in transforming India’s maritime infrastructure. It stands as a shining example of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, with Gujarat once again at the forefront of the nation’s development journey.

The achievement of the Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla, has brought immense pride not only to Gujarat but to the entire nation. Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, and with the support of Union Minister Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Minister of State Shri Shantanu Thakur, and Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel, DPA Kandla continues to make remarkable progress. Under the leadership of its Chairman, Shri Sushil Kumar Singh, DPA Kandla is achieving new milestones in innovation, sustainability, and growth.
