PSA Antwerp has placed an order with Kalmar Corporation for a new fleet of hybrid straddle carriers, as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance operational efficiency and reduce emissions.

The hybrid straddle carriers are designed to deliver significant fuel savings and lower carbon output compared to conventional diesel-powered equipment. The deployment is expected to support PSA Antwerp’s sustainability goals while maintaining high performance in container handling operations.

Kalmar stated that the equipment will feature advanced energy-efficient technologies, enabling optimized fuel consumption and reduced environmental impact without compromising productivity. The carriers are also equipped with smart systems for improved operational control and maintenance monitoring.

The order reflects a growing trend among global port operators to invest in greener cargo handling solutions as part of broader decarbonization strategies. Hybrid and electric equipment are increasingly being adopted to meet stricter environmental regulations and corporate sustainability targets.

Industry experts note that such investments not only reduce emissions but also help lower long-term operating costs through improved fuel efficiency and reduced maintenance requirements.

With this latest order, PSA Antwerp continues to modernize its terminal operations, positioning itself as a forward-looking hub in Europe’s port network, while Kalmar strengthens its presence in the market for sustainable port equipment solutions.
