PSA Mumbai celebrated a significant milestone with the arrival of advanced container handling equipment for its much-anticipated Phase 2 expansion. The newly arrived shipment includes two Super Post-Panamax Rail Mounted Quay Cranes (RMQCs) and six energy-efficient e-Rubber Tyred Gantry (e-RTG) cranes, marking a step forward in expanding the terminal’s operations.
The equipment rollout is a part of ambitious efforts to transform PSA Mumbai into India’s largest standalone container terminal by Q1 2025. With the Phase 2 expansion on track, the terminal is set to elevate its capacity to support India’s booming cargo demands, positioning itself as a crucial link in the nation’s EXIM trade network.
The Super Post-Panamax RMQCs are engineered to handle larger vessels with high efficiency, setting a new benchmark for productivity at PSA Mumbai. Complementing the RMQCs are the six e-RTG cranes (electric powered), which will play a pivotal role in PSA Mumbai’s eco-friendly agenda. The e-RTGs will streamline yard operations, further optimizing cargo handling and reinforcing PSA Mumbai’s commitment to sustainability through reducing carbon foot considerably.
Along with advanced equipment, the Phase 2 expansion will introduce an additional 1 km of quay, and a capacity of 2.4 million Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) annually. As PSA Mumbai gears up to become a leading cargo handling hub, the integration of advanced technology and sustainable solutions reflect the terminal’s vision to serve as a vital anchor for India’s EXIM trade, supporting the nation’s economic growth.
