RailTel has secured a ₹49.7 crore contract to implement an Intelligent Transport System (ITS) in Karnataka, marking a significant step in expanding its smart mobility solutions portfolio.

The project involves deploying advanced traffic management technologies aimed at improving road safety, easing congestion, and enhancing real-time monitoring across key urban corridors. The ITS will integrate surveillance systems, automated signalling, and data analytics to enable efficient traffic flow management.

Officials said the initiative is part of Karnataka’s broader push toward smart city infrastructure, leveraging digital solutions to modernise urban transport networks. The system is expected to provide authorities with actionable insights for quicker decision-making and incident response.

RailTel will be responsible for the end-to-end execution of the project, including design, installation, and maintenance of the ITS infrastructure. The deployment is likely to benefit commuters through reduced travel times and improved road conditions.

The order reinforces RailTel’s growing presence in the smart infrastructure segment, as it continues to diversify beyond telecom services into technology-driven urban solutions.
