Two infrastructure-related projects have been sanctioned for Sambalpur City and Balasore railway stations. A quick watering system for Sambalpur City station with an estimated cost of Rs 5.43 crore and provision of drainage system at Balasore station at a cost of Rs 6.49 crore.

An official statement issued by the East Coast Railway (ECoR) said quick watering facilities at Sambalpur City station will help in better water supply and availability of water in passenger coaches. This facility avoids wastage of water and fills up a 24-coach train within 5-6 minutes. Moreover, multiple trains can be watered at the same time.

Watering of coaches is regularly done at nominated railway stations so that passengers do not face water crises while making a train journey. Under the conventional system, a train of 24 coaches takes about 20 minutes to fill up with water. By implementing this system, Railways has ensured provision of fresh water to all its passengers and also reduced wastage and misuse of water, said the ECoR.

Similarly, a fund of Rs 6.49 crore has been sanctioned by the Railway Board for provision of drainage arrangements at the west side of Balasore station. Major upgradation work has been undertaken at Balasore station under ‘Amrit Bharat Station’ scheme. It will ensure the proper sewage system at Balasore station, said the official sources.
