In a move towards a more sustainable port ecosystem, Saudi Global Ports (SGP) has acquired 80 electric prime movers (e-PMs) from SANY Marine Heavy Industry for use at the container terminals of King Abdulaziz Port Dammam (KAPD).
Along with the e-PMs, SANY will provide charging stations and relevant training for SGP employees to maintain and service the e-PMs and charging stations.
This purchase highlights SGP’s commitment to fostering greener and more innovative port and logistics operations by reducing emissions. It also brings SGP closer to achieving its long-term energy transition and decarbonisation goals.
The 80 e-PMs are expected to be fully operational by the end of October 2024, enhancing SGP’s current operational capacity. This initiative is part of SGP’s broader plan to invest up to US$2.5 billion over its 30-year concession to transform KAPD into a competitive and sustainable global container hub.

In addition, the agreement to purchase the e-PMs was signed at Transport Logistic China 2024, where SGP was exhibiting alongside other Saudi Arabian government entities and companies.
