Danish freight forwarder Scan Global Logistics has agreed to acquire US-based logistics provider OIA Global in what it described as the largest investment in its history. The proposed acquisition is expected to strengthen Scan Global Logistics’ presence in the United States and elevate its position among the world’s leading freight forwarders.
Headquartered in Portland, Oregon, OIA Global operates more than 60 offices across over 30 countries and employs more than 1,200 people. Founded in 1988, the company provides freight forwarding, customs brokerage, contract logistics, project logistics, prime contractor management, packaging design and materials management services. OIA Global generated revenue of US$780 million last year.
Scan Global Logistics said the acquisition would complement its existing services and broaden the supply chain solutions available to customers. The combined business is expected to offer greater capabilities to manage increasingly complex international supply chains while strengthening its presence in strategically important markets.
Strengthening Global Market Position
Scan Global Logistics ranks as the world’s 19th-largest freight forwarder based on gross revenue and ocean and air freight volumes, according to Armstrong & Associates. The company employs more than 5,100 people and operates over 200 offices worldwide.
Scan has expanded rapidly since 2018 through acquisitions across Africa, Europe and North America, alongside organic expansion into additional markets. In 2021, it acquired the international freight forwarding division of US trucking company Werner Enterprises.
The company reported revenue of US$2.82 billion last year, while adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) increased 12% year on year to US$244.2 million. It also recorded a net loss of US$101.5 million, which management attributed to debt refinancing and financing the acquisition of Canada’s ITN Logistics Group.
Deal Expected to Close in Q1 2027
The acquisition of OIA Global remains subject to customary regulatory approvals. The financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed, and completion is expected in the first quarter of 2027.
The proposed deal comes amid accelerating mergers, acquisitions and investments across the global logistics industry, particularly in the United States, as companies seek to expand their geographic reach, strengthen service portfolios and enhance integrated supply chain capabilities.
