The Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) has appointed Vipul Singhal as a nominee director on its board, strengthening the company’s board-level representation.

Singhal’s appointment is part of the company’s board restructuring and will take effect in accordance with the terms of his nomination. As a nominee director, he will participate in the board’s deliberations and oversight of the company’s operations and strategic matters.

SCI is India’s leading state-owned shipping company, with operations spanning crude oil and product tankers, bulk carriers, container vessels, offshore vessels and other segments of maritime transportation.

The appointment comes as SCI continues to focus on strengthening its fleet and expanding its role in India’s maritime and logistics ecosystem. The company has also been pursuing fleet renewal and expansion plans to support the country’s growing shipping requirements.

The SCI board is responsible for overseeing key areas including fleet investments, financial performance, business strategy and operational development. The addition of a nominee director is expected to contribute to the board’s governance and decision-making processes.

Further details regarding Singhal’s role and responsibilities will be reflected in the company’s regulatory disclosures.

The appointment comes at a time when India is seeking to increase its domestic shipping capacity and strengthen the participation of Indian-flagged vessels in the country’s international trade.
