Shanghai Port has achieved a significant milestone in its green shipping journey by surpassing 2 million cubic metres of cumulative liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering, reinforcing its position as one of the world’s leading LNG marine fuel hubs.
The landmark was reached on 25 July 2026, when Pacific International Lines (PTE) Ltd (PIL)’s LNG dual-fuel container vessel Kota Eagle received 4,549 cubic metres of LNG fuel from SIPG Energy’s LNG bunkering vessel at the Lvhuashan Anchorage off the coast of Shanghai, China.
The achievement highlights the rapid expansion of Shanghai Port’s LNG bunkering infrastructure, supporting the maritime industry’s transition toward cleaner fuels and lower-emission shipping operations.
PIL said the milestone aligns with its long-term decarbonisation strategy, under which the company is modernising its fleet through investments in LNG dual-fuel vessels. Kota Eagle, delivered in 2024, is PIL’s first LNG dual-fuel container vessel and had also completed its maiden LNG bunkering operation at Shanghai’s Yangshan Port. The shipping line has since taken delivery of nine LNG dual-fuel newbuild vessels, reflecting its continued commitment to sustainable fleet renewal.
The company noted that Shanghai Port’s growing LNG bunkering capabilities are providing the essential infrastructure needed to support the efficient operation of its expanding fleet of environmentally friendly vessels.
PIL reaffirmed that it will continue collaborating with Shanghai International Port (Group) Co., Ltd. (SIPG) and other industry partners to advance the adoption of cleaner marine fuels and contribute to the decarbonisation of global shipping.
