    The Shipping Corporation of India has received an upgraded stock call to ‘Hold’ from MarketsMOJO as of December 23, 2024. This midcap company, a significant player in the shipping industry, boasts a low debt-to-equity ratio of 0.31 times, indicating a stable financial structure.

    The company has demonstrated impressive long-term growth, with operating profit increasing at an annual rate of 195.99%. Recent financial results for the half-year ending September 2024 show a profit after tax of Rs 582.92 crore, reflecting a growth of 145.61%. Net sales for the same period reached Rs 2,965.03 crore, a 29.29% increase. The return on capital employed (ROCE) stands at 11.03%, showcasing a strong valuation with an enterprise value to capital employed ratio of 1.2.

    Despite a market cap of Rs 9,863 crore, making it the second-largest company in the sector, the Shipping Corporation of India faces challenges with management efficiency, as indicated by a lower average ROCE of 5.64%. Additionally, institutional investor participation has declined by 4% in the last quarter, now holding 9.26% of the company.
