Six more container ships will arrive at Vizhinjam International Seaport in the coming week, which will be a record for a port that is in the trial phase. There will be at least one ship sailing in almost every day.

MSC Tavvishi has already docked at the port on Friday, while another one, MSC Capetown III, and MSC Rose are nearing the port and are likely to dock at the port soon.

Capetown III is arriving from Colombo, while Rose is on the way from Singapore. Both the ships are in Indian waters.

Another container ship, S Alva, from the UAE, will reach on Sunday. According to authorities, close to 10 ships have docked at the port so far.

A port official said that more ships are arriving as part of the trials. “We will not immediately try simultaneous docking of the ships because of its trial phase. Other aspects are being perfected before commissioning,” the official added.

The Vizhinjam port aims for quick turnaround of ships so that there will be no congestion at the port like that in Colombo.

The Vizhinjam port, being operated and developed by Adani Ports, is scheduled to be commissioned next month.
