Southern Railway has announced the launch of a new time-tabled weekly Parcel Express service connecting Chennai and Mangaluru, offering shippers a faster, smoother, and more reliable cargo movement option across the two coasts. The service is designed to reduce dependence on road transport and help businesses avoid highway congestion with assured overnight transit.
The new service will begin operations from Mangaluru Central every Friday starting December 12, 2025, and from Royapuram (Chennai) every Tuesday starting December 16, 2025.
The Parcel Express will run between Chennai and Mangaluru via key industrial and commercial hubs such as Salem, Erode, Tiruppur, Coimbatore, Palakkad, Tirur, Thalassery, Kannur, and Kasaragod, offering broad connectivity for cargo owners.
According to Southern Railway, the service includes dedicated parcel coaches for each destination, ample stoppage time for safe loading and unloading, seamless connectivity across the route, and transparent operations. The railway also highlighted the cost-effective nature of the service under the “P-SCALE” movement and its environmentally friendly advantages compared to road logistics.
The initiative is expected to benefit traders, MSMEs, e-commerce players, and logistics providers by providing a well-coordinated and monitored freight service with assured transit time. The comprehensive freight basket and improved handling facilities aim to offer a convenient alternative for overnight coast-to-coast cargo movement.
The list of stoppages includes Mangaluru Central, Kasaragod, Kannur, Thalassery, Kozhikode, Tirur, Shoranur, Palakkad, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Uttukuli, Erode, Salem, and Royapuram, covering all major points on the stretch.
With this launch, Southern Railway continues to strengthen its role in the region’s logistics ecosystem, offering dependable and eco-friendly cargo solutions to support trade and industry.
