Sri Lanka today (27) received a shipment of 1,485 metric tons of salt imported from India to mitigate a shortage in the local market.

The move to import salt follows the Cabinet of Ministers’ approval to bring in 30,000 metric tons of salt to ensure an adequate supply in the market.

The local salt industry has struggled to meet national consumption needs due to disruptions caused by adverse weather conditions.
