The 2022-built, 15,264 TEU container ship CMA CGM Symi was hit by a suspected Iranian drone in the Indian Ocean, according to an American defense official.

The vessel, which is sailing under Malta’s flag, was suspected to have been targeted by a triangle-shaped, bomb-carrying Shahed-136 drone while in international waters, and according to AP report, the drone exploded, causing damage to the boxship, but did not injure the vessel crew members.

The ship is owned by an Israeli billionaire.
