The Ministry of Textiles has launched a two-day national summit aimed at charting a roadmap to boost India’s textile and apparel exports from around $37 billion to $100 billion by 2030, aligning with the government’s vision of making India a global textile powerhouse.
The summit, titled “Textiles for Global Markets: Strategy for Achieving USD 100 Billion Exports by 2030,” brings together representatives from states, Union Territories, industry bodies, exporters, financial institutions, academia and other stakeholders. Organised under the Cabinet Secretariat’s Departmental Summits initiative, the event seeks to strengthen Centre-State collaboration in driving export-led growth.
Addressing the inaugural session, Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh stressed the importance of district-led export development, product diversification, technical textiles, value addition, branding, sustainability, skilling and improved market access. Minister of State Pabitra Margherita and Textiles Secretary Neelam Shami Rao highlighted the critical role of state governments in driving exports through decentralized planning and innovation.
The summit follows extensive consultations across all 36 States and UTs and nearly 200 districts, involving more than 5,000 stakeholders. These consultations resulted in the preparation of 36 State Export Action Plans and 200 District Export Action Plans to support export expansion.
Discussions on the first day focused on district and cluster-led export strategies, product and design innovation, technical textiles, branding, logistics, infrastructure, technology adoption and skill development. Industry experts emphasized the need to align production with evolving global demand, particularly by accelerating the shift toward man-made fibre (MMF)-based products and strengthening India’s textile value chains.
Key textile clusters including Ludhiana, Tiruppur, Surat and Bhadohi were showcased as models for export growth, while sessions also highlighted opportunities in GI-tagged products, luxury textiles such as Pashmina, technical textiles and rural cooperative enterprises.
Recommendations emerging from the summit will be consolidated into a National Textile Export Roadmap 2030, aimed at enhancing competitiveness, strengthening district and cluster ecosystems, improving utilization of free trade agreements and positioning India as a preferred global sourcing destination.
