Thailand and India have agreed to strengthen transport and logistics connectivity by expanding air services, enhancing maritime cooperation and improving cross-border road links, with a particular focus on increasing flight connectivity to Chiang Mai. The initiatives are aimed at boosting trade, tourism, investment and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
As part of the discussions, both sides explored the possibility of introducing or expanding direct flights between India and Chiang Mai, Thailand’s major cultural and tourism hub. Improved air connectivity is expected to facilitate greater passenger movement, promote tourism and support business travel.
The two countries also reaffirmed their commitment to deepening maritime cooperation by enhancing port connectivity and promoting more efficient cargo movement. Stronger port linkages are expected to improve bilateral trade and support regional supply chains across the Bay of Bengal and the wider Indo-Pacific region.
In addition, India and Thailand reviewed progress on road connectivity initiatives, including efforts to improve overland transport corridors linking India with Southeast Asia. Enhanced road infrastructure is expected to facilitate smoother movement of goods and passengers while supporting regional economic integration under India’s Act East Policy.
The expanded connectivity agenda reflects the growing strategic partnership between India and Thailand and is expected to create new opportunities for commerce, logistics, tourism and investment. Both countries aim to strengthen multimodal transport networks as part of broader efforts to improve regional connectivity and economic cooperation.
